Postdoctoral Researcher Position at the Structural Biology Laboratory at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdansk and Medical University of Gdansk

The Structural Biology Laboratory (https://mrslab.ug.edu.pl/) at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdansk and Medical University of Gdansk (IFB UG & MUG), Poland, headed by Prof. Michal R. Szymanski, is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the SONATA BIS 12 project, funded by the National Science Centre, Poland, entitled “The structural organization of the human mitochondrial replisome.”

Requirements:
1. Hold a doctoral degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, bioinformatics, biology or related fields;
2. Have practical knowledge of laboratory and/or computational techniques used in protein biochemistry, molecular biology or structural biology. Experience in purification and functional characterization of enzymes involved in DNA metabolism will be an asset. Experience in the preparation of samples for structural biology studies (X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM) will be an advantageous;
3. Have documented research achievements, including a publication record and active participation in conference presentations;
4. Exhibit a willingness to acquire new skills, embrace challenges and demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a team;
5. Possess very good command of English (both written and oral); As a Postdoctoral Researcher in the SONATA BIS 12 project you will be responsible for the purification of enzymes involved in DNA replication, their biophysical and biochemical characterization and preparation of samples for structural studies (X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM). Additionally, your responsibilities will also include:
• designing, conducting, and documenting experiments to determine the structure and function of the human mitochondrial replisome;
• analysis and interpretation of the obtained results and their preparation in the form of reports and presentations;
• participation in writing manuscripts;
• supervision of junior scientists participating in the project;
• active participation in seminars of the research group, faculty seminars and scientific conferences and trainings;

We offer:
• Full-time employment contract initially for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension to 60 months;
• The basic monthly gross salary starts at approx. 8,600 PLN. The final monthly gross remuneration will be calculated individually during the employment process, taking into account the length of service. Additional bonuses may supplement this salary;
