IFB Seminar with Dr Patrick Pausch

On 21 November 2025, the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology hosted an IFB Seminar given by Dr Patrick Pausch from Vilnius University, Life Sciences Center. The seminar took place at the IFB building (Abrahama 58, hall 042B) and attracted strong interest from students, PhD candidates, and staff.

In his talk “Retron Eco2: Of DNA making and RNA breaking in bacterial immunity”, Dr Pausch presented recent insights into a bacterial defence system that generates single-stranded DNA and degrades RNA during phage infection. The seminar offered a clear overview of the molecular mechanisms behind this system and its role in bacterial immunity.

Dr Pausch, a biochemist and structural biologist, studies bacterial immune systems, including novel CRISPR pathways and phage–host interactions. The seminar concluded with an engaging discussion, reflecting the relevance and high scientific quality of the presented work.
