From 10 to 13 October 2025, Michał participated in the Fusion Conference on inter-organelle stress communication (IOSCD25) in St. Julian’s, Malta. The meeting gathered researchers working at the interface of mitochondrial biology, organelle crosstalk, genome maintenance and inflammation, offering a broad view of how cellular compartments coordinate stress responses in health and disease.
Michał contributed a presentation titled “Cardiolipin-Mediated Regulation of Nuclease Activity in the Mitochondrial Replisome.” The talk introduced our group’s ongoing work on how lipid–enzyme interactions can fine-tune nuclease function during mitochondrial DNA repair. In simple terms: the composition of the mitochondrial membrane, particularly the lipid cardiolipin, can influence how precisely DNA is copied and repaired, helping to safeguard genome stability.
A hallmark of this Fusion meeting was its balance of rigorous science and open discussion. Lively Q&A sessions, poster conversations and informal meet-ups created space for constructive feedback and new ideas. The diverse programme, spanning molecular mechanisms to translational perspectives, made it especially relevant for researchers exploring mitochondrial function and organelle communication.
We thank the organisers for an inspiring programme and the opportunity to share results with the international mitochondrial research community. Learn more about the conference here:
